Los Angeles, CA (13 January 2011) – Noreen Fraser, founder and principal of the Noreen Fraser Foundation, has been diagnosed with her third recurrence of cancer. She will remain in her position with the Foundation and continue her work, directing operations and fundraising for women’s cancer research, during treatment.
First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Fraser underwent a lumpectomy and radiation, only to find that the cancer had become metastasized to her bones and become stage 4 / incurable two years later. After living with the cancer, carefully monitored, for eight years, the most recent site is Fraser’s liver.
“I will handle this challenge the only way I know how and that is to stare it down, beat it back and fight like hell,” says Fraser, who plans on relying on her friends, as well as doctors, to see her through the treatment. “I will meet up with the Circlettes (my 4 dearest friends who I met in ‘Mommy and Me’ when our girls were 18 months old) … I thank God for girlfriends.”
Because of Fraser’s rigorous regimen of scans, the resurgence was detected early; Fraser notes “I have always advocated early detection as the best method to survive cancer and I heeded my own advice.” Fraser’s doctors at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Drs. Glaspy and Slamon, believe that the disease can be controlled with low-dose oral chemotherapy.
In the tradition of her foundation’s mission of encouraging a healthy lifestyle, Fraser will be chronicling her journey via her Foundation’s social media outlets. Facebook, Twitter, and Noreen’s website, NoreenFraserFoundation.org, will all host her witty, wise and warm musings on the sometimes-terrifying chemotherapy process.

Noreen: I will continue to keep you and your beautiful family in my prayers. I was so saddened to learn of your health issues. I had my own bout with breast cancer in 2008 so I can understand where you are coming from, my beautiful dear old friend. You are in my thoughts.

Noreen, I just found your website – I thank you for what you are doing. I, too, am a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed in 2002. After a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, I remain “clear”, but I am aware that can change at any time. I am diligent about keeping my doctor’s appointments, having my mammos, etc. and I urge all breast cancer survivors to do the same. NEVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWN.
I’m keeping y ou in my thoughts. Lynne
